After a few names shortlisted thus far, Antonio Conte has come out as the favorite to become next Chelsea manager in the summer. The 46-year-old is currently the manager for Italy and his contract will expire in the summer after Euro 2016.
As per Gazzetta World, Daniele, Conte’s brother and agent is set to meet Roman Abramovich in Monaco in the next few days. The meeting will have a sole focus on finalizing a three-year contract for Antonio Conte with Chelsea.
Ex-England manager Fabio Capello too have backed Conte for the Chelsea job. “He has the time to arrive and train Chelsea in the best way as this is an important club.
“I think the most important thing will be the team he is able to put on the field. He needs defenders and there aren’t that many around.
“His communication with the players will also be fundamental. I myself had a difficult experience in Russia where I always had to speak through a translator.”
Conte was Juventus manager before taking over Italy international squad and with the Old Lady, he won three back to back Serie A title and reached the Champions League finals where they lost to Barcelona. The Italian will be hoping to recapture the same with the Blues albeit in Premier League. Currently, Guus Hiddink is the interim boss at Chelsea and will leave the post in the summer.
