John Obi Mikel joined Chelsea 10 years ago and since then has been part of the squad that won several trophies including two European championship. His current deal expires in the summer of 2017 and a contract renewal discussion is believed to be held.
As per Metro’s report, the player agent has confirmed that while Chelsea were interested to renew the contract of the player, the player himself has put the discussion on hold. He is said to be taking his time to decide his future after the season.
Mikel has had his ups and downs but seems to have reinvented himself under Guus Hiddink. But as the Dutch manager will not be Chelsea after the summer, he may not want to continue if a favorable manager does not arrive. A few teams are already interested in his service including a three Chinese clubs. It does make sense for him to hold out for a good contract with big money given that he is 28 years old.
‘Chelsea have approached him for an extension. But he said after the season he’ll decide. He has many teams interested – almost three clubs in China want him.’ his agent explained.
