The threat of losing John Terry is increasing day by day as he is closing in on the last three months of his contract. The board seems hesitant to offer the Legend a new contract and Chelsea have to look for a replacement to strengthen the squad in defense.
The next manager doesn’t have to look much further for a new centre back. Chelsea have got one of the future stars of the game and is doing quite well this season, unsurprisingly on loan. Andreas Christensen, the 19-year-old Danish youngster is making waves on his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Christensen joined Chelsea as a 15-year-old in 2011 from his hometown club, Brondby. He has represented Denmark in U17, U19 and U21 age groups. He made his Chelsea debut against Shrewsbury Town in the League cup in the 2013-14 season. He also played in the FA cup loss against Bradford last season and made a good impression to the Bridge’s faithful.
The Danish youngster joined Monchengladbach this season and is improving with every game passing by. He has gone on to become their best defender and is gaining a lot of interest from a host of clubs. Andre Schubert, Monchengladbach’s boss has expressed his desire to sign the highly rated star permanently.
Andreas is a ball playing defender, a quality found rare these days. He has a passing accuracy of 86.6% which is impressive for any player, let alone a central defender. He averages four interceptions per game and his reading for the game is exceptional.
In 17 League games that he has played this season, Christensen has zero bookings to his name. His positioning is brilliant and has been a rock solid presence for the Foals this season. The only weakness that the Dane has that because of his lean presence, he is bullied easily in air. But he has a lot of time on his side and will look to improve on his physique in the coming years.
There has been a lot of talk about his future and it will be a huge mistake if Chelsea let go of such a huge talent that is already present at their disposal. There needs to be a place for Andreas Christensen in the squad after his loan spell comes to an end. With him, Kurt Zouma and possibly John Stones, the future will be secure at Stamford Bridge.
