Why Chelsea Star Was Right To Move On

The man, the legend, the star and the main midfielder for 13 years is set to leave Stamford Bridge as he looks for a fresh start at a new club. If you haven’t heard about the departure of Frank Lampard, I suggest you come out from under your rock. Every tabloid in Britain is paying tribute to Lampard who will be leaving Chelsea this summer after months of speculation. At one point it was believed he would sign a new contract.

Saying goodbye to a legend of the club is never easy. Chelsea experienced it not that long ago when Didier Drogba went on his travels to China. The Telegraph are just one of many publications to bid farewell to the England international. They highlighted his career which has been littered with trophies and personal achievements.

However, the move is the correct one for the 35-year-old. This goes against popular belief as people still think he is capable of leading Chelsea to more glory in the future as he knows how to win things. That’s certainly what Harry Redknapp thinks after suggesting, in an interview reported by the Mirror, that Chelsea are mad to let him go.

Yes, Lampard may well be capable of staying at Chelsea for another season in terms of ability, but mentally he might not be able to take the torment of being a bit-part at a club he served honourably for 13 years. Especially if he had a chance to play regular football elsewhere. He also gets to experience a different culture of football should he move to America, which is likely according to reports, which will satisfy most player’s dreams of winding down their careers in America, Australia or China while still making a lot of money.

For Chelsea this is also a wise move because Lampard’s departure frees up space and wages for a new exciting player who will be at the club for a number of years to come.
