Some transfer gossip for you now. Chelsea are trying to tie-up a deal to sign Cesc Fabregas that would lead to Arsenal missing out on payment for their former midfielder. The Gunners are set to earn around about 50% of any profit which the Catalan club recover on the £28M that they sold Fabregas for, in a complicated deal three years ago. As the Independent have reported.
It is not thought that the issue is a deal-breaker and there is hope that progress could be made on a deal this week. But it once again highlights the fact that Chelsea view, FA Cup winners Arsenal, as direct rivals in the race for the Premiership title.
Fabregas is currently with the Spain squad, who have arrived in Brazil ahead of the World Cup. Spain start their Group B campaign against the Netherlands on Friday and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can agree a transfer with Barcelona before then.
Chelsea are keen to announce the signing of another Spanish international, the striker Diego Costa, before the Dutch game. He will move from Spanish Champions Atheltico Madrid for around £32M. The signings of the two Spanish internationals would represent a massive step forward as the club look to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City.
Mourinho’s first season back in the top flight of English football ended in somewhat disappointment as the club finished minus any silverware.
