The tabloids already seem to be bored with the departure of Frank Lampard and have now turned their attention to replacements for him. There is quite a list developing as each and every publication in Europe is coming up with someone new every other day. Every so often this player is picked up by other tabloids and suddenly a frenzy is created around him. Then a number of other clubs are thrown into the mix to create a really juicy saga.
This is exactly what has happened to Cesc Fabregas. A week ago it was reported that Barcelona would sell him and that the player wants a Premier League return. Obviously Arsenal fans have gone into over drive considering the history between the two. However, nothing has been suggested that Arsenal will make a move for him and that created boredom in the world of journalism so their cunning plan was to throw a whole host of teams into the mix.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and now Chelsea have all been strongly linked with the Spaniard. In fact, the Mirror are reporting that Chelsea are leading the race to sign him.
I sincerely hope Chelsea’s interest is real as he would be the ideal replacement for Frank Lampard. A midfielder that can dictate play, but can also score goals as well as create them.
Fabregas has had a season that has mirrored Oscar’s. Fantastic first half to the campaign, but a significant dip in form attracted a lot of criticism and thus lost a regular place in the starting line-up in the second half.
But, when you consider their performances in the first half you begin to wonder what has gone wrong because a consistent campaign can bring a lot of success. Oscar was near enough the best midfielder in the league and Fabregas was the same in the La Liga. 8 goals and 19 assists suggests that the Spaniard was doing something right.
If Chelsea can bring out the form that Fabregas showed in his Arsenal days then they can easily win the Premier League and perhaps grab Champions League glory as he is that good. An expensive, but ideal replacement for Frank.
