Why Mehdi Benatia Would Be Ideal For Chelsea

With the sale of David Luiz rocking the football world for the sheer amount of money exchanged between the Blues and Paris Saint Germain, the media have already begun linking Chelsea with a new centre-back. A whole host of names have been thrown into the hat and most seem reasonable replacements.

Mehdi Benatia is a name that has been mentioned in contention with a move to Stamford Bridge and it is the one I’m most excited about. 101 Great Goals are the outlet reporting the news of the Moroccan potentially being involved in a £35 million deal.

Benatia has proved this season that he’s one of the best centre-backs in the world. He was crucial to Roma obtaining Champions League football for next season.

He’s a towering figure at the back for the Italian giants. His aerial prowess and intelligence makes him one of the best. He can read the minds of the opposition and make crucial interceptions to help start attacks.

If Benatia was to be bought by Jose Mourinho, he would walk straight into the first team. Which obviously means John Terry or Gary Cahill will have to be dropped. Both have had superb seasons themselves so the decision will be difficult for Mourinho.

However, Benatia is worth it. He will provide even more stability to an already very stable back four. He will be expensive, but he will give the Blues an unreal amount of depth.
