If you are over the age of 18, the chances are that you have partaken in some sort of sport betting, or more specifically, football betting. The lure of pitting your wits against the best is often far too much, and the thought of turning your pennies into gold even more so.
Although the unpredictability of the sport is something we are all well aware of, the majority of us would like to think we could gauge at least a few results per weekend.
After all, we haven’t spent all these years following our team across the country, only to learn nothing, did we?
More often than not you are left with a losing ticket, despite that lunchtime hunch that you accumulator would prove profitable.
Though sometimes taking a gamble really does pay off.
Reverting to earlier in the year, I had a little dabble myself. With a bit of spare cash in my pocket, I popped into the bookmakers on the way to Chelsea vs Manchester United. The game was in mid-January, and the Blues were in need of a win to keep the pace with league leaders Arsenal and second placed Manchester City.
There is always goals in the big games, so I fancied the score to be 3-1 to Chelsea, and stuck that on. It was then a decision of who to score first. With Samuel Eto’o obviously going to lead the line for the home side, I decided that a scorecast of Eto’o to score first and Chelsea to win 3-1 was worth a couple of quid.
I also stuck a £15 on the African to score first on its own. Needless to say I was delighted when he struck the opener after 15 minutes or so, bagging me £60, but I was even happier when the game finished 3-1.
All in all I was rewarded with a little over £300, which went towards a holiday. That has been my best bet of the season, and I would happily buy the former Barcelona man a pint.
This summer allows me to have a play around during the World Cup, and I can’t wait. Who will you be backing?
