Not Luke Shaw: Could This Man Be Chelsea’s Solution At Left-Back?

Ashley Cole has been a superb servant to Chelsea over the years, but this season hasn’t been one to remember for the England international. The former Arsenal left-back has lost his place in the first team due to the fine form of Cesar Azpilicueta and because of the timing – the World Cup is just around the corner – and the fact that he is out of contract at the end of the season, his career could be unravelling before our eyes.

However, fear not, as I have the solution to the problem that sits in front of us. No, it’s not Luke Shaw, though I would welcome him with open arms if he was to come into the club. He is one of us, after all.

It is Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez. The Switzerland international is a 21-year-old left-sided defender who has almost everything needed to make an impact on highest stage.

He’s strong, he’s powerful on the ball and is rapid to boot. He knows when to bomb down the flank and when to swing a ball into the box – he has scored five and assisted four in the Bundesliga this season – but he is also strong in the tackle.

I could talk for hours about him, but this clip will show you a bit more about him.
