Being a long-term Chelsea fan, I have experienced some of the most extraordinary scenes in my 24 years of living. Growing up in west London I have been privileged with what has been going on at Stamford Bridge and the staff that has gone with it. I am aware that it can’t last forever and those I grew up watching may not be staying at the club for much longer, but after hearing Jose Mourinho pouring doubt into Ashley Cole’s future at the club I couldn’t help but feel a little bit gutted.
Cole is a player who has been a favourite of mine for a number of years.
It may be because I was the only left-footed players in my football team, or it may be because of the controversy he has caused over his career, but now that he is out of the side and looking unlikely to gain his place in the side back I thought that I would look into whether or not it’s the right decision.
He has played 13 league games this season and has averaged four defensive actions per outing, but he has won just four of his 14 take ons and 6/22 of his headers.
To be quite honest, I think Cesar Azpilicueta is probably the right choice on the left of defence right now, as much as I love Cole.
Blues fans, what would you say?
