In the summer, before the season had kicked off, I was convinced that Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain was the man to fire Arsenal to the Premier League title. He didn’t come however, but although I then ruled them out of the running, they have sat top of the pile for the majority of the season. They look to now be running out of steam, though – how they’d love the now-Napoli striker at the club. Well, their London rivals have now been linked with a move for him, which would really rub the salt in the wounds of the Gunners after they snatched top spot from them.
The Metro have reported that he is apparently not interested in a move though, as he pledges his future to Napoli. In my eyes, that’s a huge blow for us [Chelsea].
With the strongest defence in the league and a midfield absolutely crammed with talent, it has been our striker department that has let us down in my eyes.
Higuain has the strength and the composure to lead a forward line and he has proved that this season with Rafa Benitez’s Serie A side.
He has played 30 games this season and has scored 17 goals in that time, which is a strong return. Chelsea’s top scorer up top is Samuel Eto’o with six goals – that shows you how much of a gap there is in current ability.
I believe that Chelsea will regret not landing the forward in the long run.
