1) Demands
The way Liverpool play their game demands their central players to drive forward. Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and even Lucas are able to push up the field and pick passes in the opposition areas, and while Alonso can also threaten in more offensive positions, his main attributes lie in the deeper roles.
He loves to pick opposition attacks apart before spraying passes to the flanks, and with Chelsea’s array of attacking options it would relieve the Spaniard of his duties.
2) Title
Liverpool are having a fine season and are probably in with their best shot at winning some silverware in a long, long time. Chelsea, however, still have the upper hand of the two, as well as the experience to claim the crown.
Should Mourinho land a striker in January then it’ll take a brave man to argue that they wont be the champions come May.
3) Mourinho
Alonso knows how the Portuguese boss works, and vice versa. The pair spent time together at Real Madrid and had a solid relationship, with Alonso proving to be the staple to Mourinho’s midfield.
