Nemanja Matic – Is another attacker what Chelsea really need?

 

You read the title correctly, Chelsea are reportedly in the hunt for another attacking midfielder. TalkSPORT are reporting that Jose Mouinho is interested in bringing Nemanja Matic back to Stamford Bridge after the Serbian has lit up the Portuguese leagues with Benfica.

He left the west London club in 2011 after making next to no impact, and was used as a makeweight in the deal luring David Luiz to the club.

But now, after winning the Primeira Liga Player of the Year for the 2012/13 season, the Blues have come sniffing back.

But do they need him?

He said:”To be honest I would like to stay for another year in Lisbon.

“But surely if someone like Mourinho wanted to bring me back to London, it would be a chance to prove that I can play in the Premier League.”

There is no doubting the 25-year-old’s ability, but with Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Kevin de Bruyne and the injured Marco van Ginkel able to operate in the berths behind the front man, as well as Frank Lampard and Andre Schurrle, where the Jiminy Cricket would Matic fit in?

Mourinho has already frustrated some by leaving de Bruyne out of his Champions League squad after just three games in the first team, and now he wants to add more to his strongest area of the field?

They don’t need him, in my opinion, and would be better off using the money on a proper centre-forward.
