Understandably so too, the 20 year old has a fantastic chance of his opening World Cup campaign, and Louis van Gaal has expressed his wish for players to be playing consistently in the run up, or they simply won’t be picked.
With a reported fee of around £9million, many people questioned the signing, believing he would become another Marko Marin, spend a season or two elsewhere, and struggle to break into the squad, but I really think this man is different.
With Lampard coming to the end of his Chelsea career, and Essien looking to be used in short supply, it seems van Ginkel will be used in the DM role, which certainly signals he will get many a game this campaign.
Rumours have been circulating over Mikel’s future at the club, and I think that even should he not move, his position will be taken by the Dutch signing. Describing himself, he stated “I am a box-to-box player. I cover a lot of metres and can score a goal, but I also like to defend and think of myself as a real team player.”
The move throws doubts over Romeu’s future at the club, as it looks like he is down the pecking order further now, to a man younger than him. However, I don’t believe that van Ginkel is restricted to just a DM role. His 8 goals in 33 appearances for Vitesse last season prove the man can do a job further forward, and another option in that AMC role that Oscar has made his own, and versatility is something that is important to focus on, as we look back on two seasons stretching more than 110 matches.
Mourinho utilised the 4-2-3-1 formation at Madrid, and I can’t see him changing it at the Bridge. With no news of a potential centre-back lined up, I would bet on Luiz reverting back to his defensive role that he seems more than capable in with Brazil, while assisting in midfield when he is required. Therefore, the signing of the 20 year old bears massive importance, and at under £10million, that makes him an absolute steal.
With Schurrle and van Ginkel on the books already this summer, I wouldn’t bet on more business being done, but where do you think we need improving next?
