Deadline Day sees Chelsea bring in new faces

A quiet January transfer window by the Premier League’s standards saw Chelsea bring in three new faces, earlier in the month England International Gary Cahill made the switch from the North-West to the capital.

However it wasn’t until deadline day that the West-Londoners secured their final two signings, with a couple of young players joining the club.

As expected Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne joined Chelsea on five-and-a-half-year deal for a fee in the region of £6.7 million. The 20-year old was immediately sent back on loan to his former club and will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Racing Genk.

Although Chelsea fans will not see him feature this campaign there is plenty to be excited about once he finally does arrive in the summer, as the attack mind midfielder who plays predominately as a winger has trickery, flare, an eye for an assist and being renowned for his long range strike.

At a time where Belgian football has seen a crop of promising youngsters emerge from within their ranks in the form of Lille’s Eden Hazard, Fulham’s Moussa Dembele and Chelsea’s very own duo Roman Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois. The capture of Kevin De Bruyne ensures the blues have added more quality to their current group of youngsters Andre Villas Boas is looking to put his stamp on.

It is not just his fellow countrymen at Chelsea that will help make De Bruyne feel at home in fact his mother was born in Ealing, West London!

Chelsea’s final signing on deadline day saw teenage striker Patrick Bamford move to Stamford Bridge from championship club Nottingham Forest.

AVB’s men paid a reported £1.5 million for the 18-year old despite only making just two first team appearances at the City Ground. However it was his displays in the FA Youth Cup which acted as a catalyst for Chelsea’s snapping up of the player.

The rookie scored four goals in the last 16 tie in the FA Youth Cup against Southampton, and notched five in the previous round. With the forward’s contract due to expire in the summer and after rejecting two offers to stay, it was the blues who pounced first. 

Although no £50 million was splashed out on one player like last year, it is clear Chelsea’s real business will be conducted in the summer.
