The weekend preview – Blues must win but what about the rest

Some important fixtures are taking place this weekend as the Christmas period draws closer.

In one of the 3pm kick-offs, West Bromwich Albion host inform Tottenham Hotspur. West Brom have had a topsy-turvy season so far, picking up a respectable ten points since the 1st October. And although they are losing against the bigger teams, they are carving wins against the teams around them, including a win at home to Bolton Wanderers last week. Their opponents Spurs are unbeaten in nine league games, winning eight of them, and all their players are performing to the top of their game. No midweek Europa League has also ensured their players are fully fit and therefore, a win seems realistic.

It’s a tough game to call in Norwich as City entertain Queens Park Rangers. This is the battle of two high-flying Premier League newcomers, both who have goal hungry strikers in their team. For Norwich, Steve Morison has scored in his last three matches and, like West Brom, City are picking up points against surrounding teams. For QPR, Heidar Helguson has scored five goals since mid October and his double last week helped the Hoops to an impressive win away to Stoke City last Saturday.

Saturday’s other matches include: Stoke v Blackburn, Bolton v Everton, Chelsea v Wolves, Man.Utd v Newcastle, Sunderland v Wigan and Arsenal v Fulham in the late kick-off.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Sunday’s match sees Liverpool play Manchester City at Anfield. After a couple of poor draws, Liverpool certainly got their season up and running again following their away win against Chelsea. Luis Suarez is banging in the goals and manager Kenny Dalglish is even giving fringe players like Maxi Rodriguez and Craig Bellamy a start; both of which are performing. Man.City are flying high at the top of the league and remain the only unbeaten team in England. But their Champions League campaign is another matter and a midweek loss will certainly be on their mind. This game’s a tough call, but I feel the fans will play the part in winning it for the Reds.

Sunday’s other match is Swansea City v Aston Villa at 1:30pm.
