The goal-scoring midfield player believes that it will not be long before Chelsea team-mate Daniel Sturridge gets his chance to play for England.
The talented 22-year-old has already represented the ‘Three Lions’ from Under-16s up to Under-21s but still awaits his first full cap.
After Wayne Rooney’s needless red card against Montenegro, the Manchester United striker will be suspended for England’s first Euro 2012 match which has led to Fabio Capello confirming that he will look at other striking options in upcoming friendly matches.
After Sturridge’s excellent start to the season, Lamps feels the time is right to give the youngster a chance, and feels he is good enough.
Talking about his teammate he said: “There is no doubt Daniel will break through at International level, it’s just a matter of when it happens for him.
“He can be a great player for Chelsea and for England. He has skill, unbelievable speed off the mark and he can finish. What more can you ask?
“He brings the excitement that supporters crave and his pace gives him the ability to beat his man and create a goal out of nothing.”
It would be a real boost for the player if he was given his chance, especially as he has shown what he is capable of this season.
