Blue’s boss Andre Villas-Boas is thought to have made enquiries for Bolton’s highly rated England defender during the summer but was put off by the £18m asking price.
The price tag also saw Tottenham’s drop their deadline-day interest. Yet, it is expected that both clubs will make a move for Cahill in January.
Whilst Bolton are unlikely to get £18m when the window opens, it could still take £14m to get the Trotters to allow their star man to leave.
