It was a hard fought draw for Chelsea, with Frank Lampard and Roberto Soldado being the goal scorers.
First Half
Chelsea went all out attack the minute the game kicked off. The Blues kept possession and in the third minute, Fernando Torres was one-on-one with the keeper but failed to shoot after a defender caught up with him and brought him down in the box, in hindsight this could easily have been a penalty but there was no appeal from Nando.
Chelsea continued to attack as the match went on, but Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves pulled off some amazing saves.
Second Half
The second-half was more competitive than the first as both teams tried to take the lead. In the 55th minute, Torres hit a great volley from six yards but was denied by Alves who was in great form. A minute later, Frank Lampard scored his 20th Champions League goal with a powerful strike answering his recent critics – It was a great goal by Super Frank who made it look really easy.
Lampard was substituted in the 83rd minute, he was replaced by Kalou. Three minutes later Kalou cleared the ball away, but made contact with the ball with his arm resulting in a Valencia penalty kick. Soldado sent Petr Cech the wrong way ad made the score 1-1.
In stoppage time, Anelka had a chance to give Chelsea the win, but once Alves came to the rescue and saved the effort.
In the last minute, Ashley Cole and Juan Mata ran out of time to take the free kick as they argued with the referee and ended up collecting yellow cards.
Chelsea’s next match is away to Bolton on Sunday.
