Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that Cheslea striker Nicolas Anelka is expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract runs out.
Anelka joined the Blues from Bolton in January 2008 for £15m, he has since scored 49 league goals in 119 outings.
Whilst the Frenchman had been linked with a move during the summer, Chelsea’s young coach confirmed that the striker is happy run down his contract and leave for free.
Despite this Villas-Boas confirmed he would be offered a new contract: “It might not be the player’s expectancy to renew.”
But added: “We will make our efforts for him to renew but Nico has his own decision to make and I am not sure he will be willing.”
With Chelsea’s wealth of striking talent Anelka may find his first-team starts limited as he has competition from Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, young Daniel Sturridge and summer signing Romelu Lukaku.
