Juan Mata was getting ready to say his goodbyes to Valencia’s fans and players after he confirmed he was going to London to complete of his move to Chelsea.
The Spanish winger was expected to complete a medical at the Cobham training base and to finalize his personal terms before completing the transfer which is thought to be worth around £23.5million.
Mata tweeted earlier today: “Travel to London for medical examination, and come back to Valencia to say goodbye to everybody as you deserve…thanks so much!”
The fee for the player, who was part of Spain’s World Cup winning squad and who captained their victorious European Under-21 Championship team, was agreed last night.
The 23-year-old will follow the arrivals of youngsters Romelu Lukaku, Oriol Romeu and Thibault Courtois, but he will become Chelsea’s biggest summer signing.
