The hunt goes on …

published :

With less than two weeks until the season starts Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bring in new players to strengthen his squad.
Following his success at Porto and his need to justify his own large price tag that the Chelsea hierarchy paid for him, means that there is a lot expected from the upcoming season.
New talent is required to achieve the success that is expected, it is thought the Blues are in the process of increasing their bid for Luka Modric to £30m – a fee that may make Spurs’ owner Daniel Levy think twice about refusing to sell him.
Another player who is still interesting Villas-Boas is his old midfield star Joao Moutinho, a player he knows very well from Porto and is confident he would be able to adapt to life in the Premiership. Should he wish to prise Moutinho away from his old club, he would have to meet their £35m release clause.
With AVB keen to use a 4-3-3 formation, there is also a need to add width to the squad. The club was linked to Adam Johnson last week, but it is unlikely Roberto Mancini will see the England player. Instead, Chelsea may turn their attention to Shakhtar Dontesk’s Brazilian midfielder Willian.

I feel Chelsea has missed out on all big targets this summer in Sergio Aguero, Javier Pastore, Alexis Sanchez and Neymar. I still think AVB needs at least one BIG name to kickoff his reign and chase away Mourinho's ghost. He needs to build his own team. Out of the targets available, I truly hope he goes for Modric and Hazard. Modric's case is self-explanatory, the team needs creativity in midfield, and he was one of the best creative midfielder in the EPL last season.
As for Hazard, he would bring much needed excitement upfront. Our forwards are too predictible, and he would break that pattern with his pace and trickery. He is very versatile and can play either wing or midfield, very much like David Silva and Samir Nasri. He would be a tremendous addition to the side. IF not Hazard, Adam Johnson would be a decent alternative. After last season's disapointment, Chelsea fans need something to get excited about, that can be associated to AVB.

Chelsea youth verses Chelsea experience: McEagran, Sturridge and Van Aanholt are the only youngsters that are ready for regular first team involvement. But even they need to be brought in cautiously. It will be a mistake to rely on the slow and experienced players just as it will be to rely on the agile and inexperienced ones. Chelsea must bring in a few young players who are ready-made, as they did with Ramires and David Luiz. Modric is such a player, but one or two more are needed. Real wingers are missing, and Chelsea’s right back position (Bosingwa/Ferriera) remains our weakest position. I agree that a complete team overhaul is unnecessary, but I think the ones I have labelled are important if Chelsea hope to deal with the likes of Man Utd and Barcelona.
