The Week That Was … W/C 10th July 2011

The last seven days have seen lots of rumours surrounded Luka Modric and the build up to Andre Villa-Boas’ first signing and the possibility of an ex-Blue returning to the Bridge.
The week started with the club still in shock after finding out the Michael Essien could be out for the season, in the Sun on MONDAY it was reported that Andre could make a move for Joao Moutinho, a player who excelled under him at Porto. Should Chelsea place a bid it could cost around £35m to bring the talented midfield player to London.
On TUESDAY stories all around the press ran with the news that the Blues were considering a move for ex-player Scott Parker, since leaving the club he impressed at both Newcastle and West Ham. The Daily Mail feel that Chelsea could make a move Real Madrid’s Kaka if Spurs continue to refuse to sell Modric.
More Scottie Parker gossip on WEDNESDAY, as the Times ran the story that the Blues are hoping that West Ham’s eagerness to reduce their wage bill could see them let Parker move to Stamford Bridge on loan. Meanwhile, in the Daily Mirror it was reported that  AVB is looking to outbid Arsenal for Bolton’s Gary Cahill who has been recommended by Blues skipper John Terry.
Talksport through a new name into the hat as they said AVB will make a £15m bid for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi as a Michael Essien replacement.
And finally for Wednesday, the Independent pointed out that Chelsea‘s tour of Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong will mean they travel 19,091 miles, which is more than any other top flight club – in contrast newly promoted Swansea will travel only 19 miles, where they are taking on away games against Neath and Port Talbot.
On FRIDAY, the Daily Mirror said that Andre was about to sign his first new player, they said a £5m fee had been agreed with Belgian side Genk for keeper Thibault Courtois.
In SATURDAY‘s Sun, there was more talk of Arsenal taking an interest in a Blues’ target, this time it is Romelu Lukaku – apparently they believe that the Gooners have made a £14m bid for the Anderlecht striker.
In contract to Saturday’s rumours SUNDAY saw a report in the People that Blues are about to make a final £22m bid Lukaku – somewhat more than Arsenal are likely to offer.
And finally, in the Sunday Mirror it was reported that Roman Abramovich will make the final decision whether to bring Scott Parker back to the club.
