As you look at list of the top ten assists across Europe you will notice there is just one Premiership representative and that is Chelsea’s one and only Didier Drogba.

The 2010/11 season has come to an end in most of the European leagues and we are now looking forward to next season, but first let’s take a look at the players who provided the most assists for their teammates. The general rule is that the most creative players on the field normally make the most assists and the engine behind their team’s success.

The player who provided the most assists this season is Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil, he managed an impressive 24 in all competitions, as well as scoring seven goals – an excellent debut season for the German youngster.

In second place, we find Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi who managed 22 assists, he starred for the Catalonian side he bagged an amazing 50 goals in all competitions. Barcelona are the only club who have two players on the list – the other being, Dani Alves who chipped in with 18.

Other interesting names that have had an important role in their teams success this year, are Christian Tiffert who provided 20 assists for Kaiserslautern, as they managed to capture seventh spot in the Bundesliga. Then there is Chelsea target Hulk, who holds a total tally of 21 assists and 31 goals for FC Porto, and was instrumental in helping the team complete a historic treble.

Dusan Tadic, who has captured the eye of IMScouting scouts for some time now, is most surprisingly – in his debut season for Groningen Joanne managed 21 assists placing him fourth, he showcased his supreme play making abilities.

Some may be surprised to see Didier Drogba appear on this list, but he managed to provide the most assists in all competitions out of the Premier League players, he actually provided more assists than goals this year. Adel Taarabt had a key role in QPR’s promotion to the Premiership, he scored 19 goals and made 16 assists.

The lone representative from France is 23-year-old Marvin Martin who actually has the most assists in the regular league with 19 in Ligue 1, his team Sochaux finished fifth place in the league, which was their best position in recent years.
