The Dream Team – Villa-Boas’ Boys

Since taking charge at Stamford Bridge, Andre Villas-Boas is yet to bring in any new players but he has been busy recruiting his backroom staff.

Key members consist of a mix of people who he has worked with, as well as an ex-player and an internal promotion, he has already announced: “I don’t see the game as a one-man show, I see the game as the getting together of collective ideas”.

Villas-Boas spoke of his desire to get the team playing in a certain way: “It’s not just about winning, but winning with a certain amount of flair. Everyone likes attacking football.”

Roberto Di Matteo – Assistant First Team Coach

The appointment of Roberto Di Matteo makes you take notice, you get the feeling that the team will revert to a more attractive style of football.

Di Matteo impressed everyone during his playing days at the Bridge, a special time for the Italian who still holds the record of scoring the fastest ever goal in an FA Cup Final.

Since quitting the game through injury the ex-Lazio player has managed MK Dons and West Brom, his sacking from the latter was seen as harsh, having been named manager of the month earlier in the season and winning promotion the year before.

The experience gained as the boss and his knowledge of the English game will mean he will be a great asset to the Blues, especially as he could have taken another manager’s job elsewhere.

Steve Holland – Assistant First Team Coach

This man is no stranger to the club, he was named reserve team manager in 2009, and in his first season in that role he led the team to a domestic double – which was the first time in the club’s history. Then he followed that triumph up with winning the Barclays Premier Reserve League last season.

Holland will be the only English-born coach on the Senior Management team and his knowledge of the youth players and club set-up will help him settle into the role.

Jose Mario Rocha – Physical Fitness Coach

Rocha has followed Villa-Boas’ from Porto to the Bridge, he will be there to increase the Blues general fitness and work on reducing the number of injuries the club has had in recent years.

Daniel Sousa – Opposition Scout

The youngest member of Villa-Boas’ set-up is 25-year-old Sousa, they have they worked together at both Academia and Porto.

Whilst the young Portuguese man is relatively unknown, his role will be to spy on the opposition, just as his boss did under the Special One.

Sousa is an intelligent man and despite his youth and is expected to move into management in the future …. who knows maybe he will one day become the manager at Stamford Bridge.
