I think it is a shame that we are yet to see a story linking us with Mario Götze – an attacking 19-year-old midfielder who plays for Dortmund in Germany.
He is the second player to be twice awarded with a Fritz Walter medal. A Fritz Walter medal is awarded annually to Germany’s best U17, U18 and U19 players. In 2009, he was the most influential player in Germany’s U17 EURO championship win followed by making his first German national team appearance in November 2010.
As Dortmund’s playmaker, this kid has incredible ball control and vision. He can weave through the tightest defensive setups with ease. Götze ended last season as the best playmaker in Germany with six goals and 15 assists. Last season, he played 41 games in all competitions, which shows how much Dortmund valued his contribution.
I believe this kid has the same football intelligence as Ozil and in a few years, he could surpass Ozil. Although Dortmund Bundesliga win is often credited to Sahin. Sahin partnership with Götze made it possible; Götze is the reason why many of the Sahin created chances didn’t remain chances but turned into goals.
I would love to see Götze in our kit next season. If it doesn’t happen, I hope we still sign some promising youth talents. Say no to Deco-Benayoun type signings.
